When is Microdentistry Used?

Microdentistry can be used in a wide range of treatments and procedures. It helps to ensure treatments are more accurate and is invaluable when gathering documentation for dental insurance claims. The enhanced magnification clearly shows areas of concern and helps to justify recommended treatments covered by dental insurance.

Procedures where we may use a surgical microscope include placing dental fillings or crowns or performing other complex dentistry procedures such as dental implants, Root canals, veneers or dental implants. A surgical microscope is very useful when treating tooth decay and during root canal therapy.

Tooth Decay

We can use microdentistry to treat tooth decay as the improved magnification is extremely useful, allowing Dr. Harrington to remove only the decayed portion of a tooth, leaving healthy tooth structure intact. It also allows our dentist to shape the cavity properly, as a well-designed cavity can improve the quality and longevity of the filling. Using a surgical microscope to place a dental filling helps ensure the margins or edges of the filling are precisely aligned, so the cavity is properly sealed and preventing further infection.
