Dental X-Rays
Dental x-rays are radiographic images that are extremely useful in allowing us to visualize areas hidden from the naked eye, including the contact areas between teeth, tooth roots, and the location of teeth yet to erupt.
Looking Deeper
Winnipeg Street Dental uses the most up-to-date digital radiography equipment, providing us with digital images that are instantly viewable in the treatment room. These images provide us with tremendous detail, allowing our dentist Dr. Roger Harrington to make a diagnosis more quickly and accurately. If necessary, we can email these x-rays to other dental specialists if we require a second opinion or need to refer you for specialist treatment.
Are Dental X-Rays Safe?
Modern dental x-rays are extremely safe, and these digital images emit approximately one-fifth of the radiation of conventional x-rays. We only take dental x-rays when necessary and take every precaution to shield patients during this procedure.
When Will I Need Dental X-Rays?
Usually, we need to take a complete set of x-rays during your initial visit. These images help provide a comprehensive overview of your current dental health, enabling us to provide you with an effective preventive dental plan designed to help you gain and maintain optimal oral health. Afterwards, we can decide how frequently you will need x-rays. Generally, an adult with good dental health will need x-rays every year. Children may need x-rays more frequently to check for decay and the growth and development of their teeth and jaws.
If you need treatment where we need to drill or cut a tooth, for example, for a decayed or infected tooth, we will need to take x-rays as a standard of care. An x-ray is essential to identify the extent of the damage to the tooth and to help us plan your treatment more accurately.
We will discuss how frequently you need dental x-rays with you more fully and all the precautions we take to ensure your safety during your visit.
